Tamil film star Vijay is facing a police complaint for allegedly insulting Muslims during an Iftar event held in Chennai on Friday. According to a report by News18, the Tamil Nadu Sunnat Jamath has filed the complaint against the actor at the Chennai Police Commissioner’s office.
The complaint specifically claims that Vijay's event was disrespectful to the Muslim community, with the presence of "drunkards and rowdies" deemed inappropriate for an occasion centered around fasting and prayer.
Syed Kous, the treasurer of Tamil Nadu Sunnat Jamath, spoke to the media regarding the organization's grievances.
He stated, “Muslims were insulted at the Iftar program organised by Vijay. We believe the participation of drunkards and rowdies who had nothing to do with fasting or Iftar has insulted Muslims.”
He added that the event was organized in a "hurtful manner," criticizing Vijay for not showing regret over how the event unfolded.
Additionally, Syed accused Vijay’s security guards of disrespecting the attendees. “The foreign guards treated people like cows,” he said. The complaint also emphasized the lack of proper arrangements and the actor's failure to acknowledge the issues raised. Syed further clarified that the complaint was not filed for publicity, but rather to ensure that such an incident does not happen again. “Legal action should be taken against Vijay to ensure this does not happen again,” he urged.
Vijay had organized the Iftar at the Royapettah YMCA grounds, where he participated in the prayers and broke fast with attendees. He wore a skull cap as part of the event, and pictures and videos from the gathering went viral on social media.
On the work front, Vijay was last seen in The GOAT, directed by Venkat Prabhu, and is currently shooting for Jana Nayagan with H Vinoth. His future in cinema is tied to his political ambitions, as the actor confirmed he would not sign any more films after the release of Jana Nayagan in preparation for his 2026 election run.
