Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the film Chhaava, based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, while inaugurating the 98th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan in New Delhi on February 21.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the growing impact of the film, noting its widespread popularity across India. He said, “In dino to Chhaava ki dhoom machi hui hai,” highlighting the national buzz surrounding the film.

In his speech, PM Modi also praised Maharashtra’s role in the growth of both Marathi and Hindi cinema. He mentioned, “It is Maharashtra and Mumbai which has given a new height to Marathi as well as Hindi cinema,” underscoring the significant contribution of the region to the film industry. He went on to add that the portrayal of Sambhaji Maharaj’s bravery in Chhaava had captivated the nation, bringing his legacy to a larger audience. “The introduction of Sambhaji Maharaj’s valour in this form has been made by Shivaji Sawant’s Marathi novel,” he explained.

Chhaava, which was produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films and directed by Laxman Utekar, tells the powerful story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s life. Vicky Kaushal stars in the lead role of Sambhaji Maharaj, with Rashmika Mandanna portraying Yesubai Bhonsale, his wife. Other notable cast members include Akshaye Khanna as Aurangzeb, Diana Penty as Zinat-un-Nissa Begum, Ashutosh Rana as Hambirrao Mohite, and Divya Dutta as Soyarabai.
