Payal Kapadia has made history by earning a nomination for Best Director at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards for her critically acclaimed film All We Imagine As Light. The highly anticipated nominations were unveiled on December 9 by Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut.

For the first time in history, an Indian director has been nominated for Best Director at the Golden Globe Awards.

Payal Kapadia made history with a nomination for Best Director at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards for her critically acclaimed film All We Imagine As Light.The exciting nominations were announced on December 9 by Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut.

For the first time in history, an Indian director has been nominated for Best Director at the Golden Globe Awards.

The film also received a nod in the Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language category. Payal Kapadia's All We Imagine As Light, which won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival, has earned a prestigious nomination at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards.

Payal Kapadia's All We Imagine As Light earned this milestone nomination. She is competing against fellow nominees Jacques Audiard for Emilia Pérez, Coralie Fargeat for The Substance, Edward Berger for Conclave, Brady Corbet for The Brutalist, and Sean Baker for Anora.

The film is nominated for Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language, while Kapadia herself is in the running for Best Director (Motion Picture). Following its success at Cannes, All We Imagine As Light has also been selected by France to represent the country at the Oscars in 2025.

For those unfamiliar, All We Imagine As Light is a poignant exploration of love, longing, and loneliness set against the vibrant backdrop of Mumbai. The film, directed by Payal Kapadia, follows the lives of three women — two Malayali nurses, Prabha (played by Kani Kusruti) and Anu (Divya Prabha), along with their friend Parvati (Chhaya Kadam).

The film is being distributed in the US by Janus Films and Sideshow, while Spirit Media, led by Rana Daggubati, is handling its release across India.
