Pavithra Gowda arrested in Renukaswamy murder case after Supreme Court cancels her and Darshan Thoogudeepa's bail

Pavithra Gowda, the prime accused in the high-profile Renukaswamy murder case, was arrested on Thursday following the Supreme Court’s cancellation of her bail. She was taken into custody from her residence in RR Nagar by the Govindarajnagar police. The move comes after the apex court, comprising Justices J B Pardiwala and Mahadevan, also revoked the bail of other accused in the case, including Kannada actor Darshan and several associates.

Authorities confirmed the arrest of another accused, identified as Pradosh (Accused No. 14), alongside Pavithra. Both are expected to undergo a medical examination before being produced in the sessions court. Sources indicate that Darshan may also be taken into custody later in the day.

In its observation, the bench stated there was “no legal reason to grant bail” and that Darshan’s continued liberty posed “a risk of derailing the administration of justice.” The court stressed that no one is above the law and that obedience to legal processes is a duty, not a favor. The judges made it clear that the accused should not receive any special treatment while in custody.

Justice Pardiwala issued a strong warning to prison authorities, stating that if it was found the accused were being given “five-star treatment” inside jail, the superintendent would be suspended on the same day. The statement underscores the court’s insistence on ensuring equal treatment of all prisoners, regardless of their social status or public profile.

The Renukaswamy case has drawn significant public and media attention due to the involvement of high-profile figures from the Kannada film industry. Pavithra Gowda, named as Accused No. 1, has been at the center of the investigation since the case surfaced, with Darshan’s alleged role also under intense scrutiny.

With the bail cancellations and subsequent arrests, the case is expected to move swiftly toward trial. The Supreme Court’s latest intervention signals a tougher stance on high-profile accused attempting to evade due legal process. For now, all eyes will be on whether Darshan is indeed taken into custody as anticipated, and how the prosecution builds its case in the coming days.
