With films like Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan and Sikandar falling short of box office expectations, Bollywood star Salman Khan has recently had a difficult run. Fans have voiced their displeasure and urged the actor to choose his scripts more carefully, but Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who costarred with him in Kick and Bajrangi Bhaijaan, has defended him.
In an interview with Lallantop Cinema, Nawazuddin responded to the criticism directed at Salman, shifting the responsibility to the filmmakers. "Thik hai ek film unki nahi chali, varna unki aisi films hain, isliye toh woh superstar hai," Nawaz remarked, suggesting that one underwhelming film doesn’t negate Salman’s legacy. "
He has done many films that didn't have any extraordinary essence, but just because they featured Salman, they became big hits. I haven't watched Sikandar, so I don't know what the film was about. But a superstar’s quality is that he makes a normal film so big, whether it has the essence or not."
Nawaz further elaborated that once Salman signs on to a project, the responsibility lies heavily on the shoulders of the film’s director and writers. "If Bhai agrees to do a film, then it becomes a big responsibility for the directors because he is serving you his fan base on a platter. They have a huge responsibility. Sirf Bhai pe hi ungli nahi uthani chahiye. The makers also need to work. If you have got Salman Khan, then it becomes their job to put in the essence and all the other elements into the film."
He praised Salman as a passionate performer and recalled their time working together on Bajrangi Bhaijaan, revealing, "There were several occasions when Salman even gave me some of his own dialogues."
According to Sacnilk, Sikandar, which starred Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal, and Sathyaraj, debuted to a mixed reception and made ₹26 crore on its first day. The movie did not live up to Salman Khan's blockbuster expectations, even though its total box office receipts were reported to have reached ₹184.6 crore worldwide, with the producers claiming over ₹200 crore.
