Ramayana set to become a global spectacle

Ramayana is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious Indian films ever made. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Malhotra under Prime Focus Studios, the two-part epic is mounted on an international scale with backing from Oscar-winning VFX giant DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations.

The casting itself has fans buzzing — Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman. The film is being envisioned as a once-in-a-lifetime cinematic spectacle, blending mythology with cutting-edge technology.

Zimmer and Rahman join forces

The biggest talking point, however, remains the music. Hans Zimmer, a two-time Oscar winner, teaming up with A.R. Rahman is a dream collaboration fans never expected. Both legends bring global sensibilities, and their work is expected to redefine how Indian epics are experienced on the big screen.

The excitement has only grown since the first look launch, which was unveiled simultaneously in nine Indian cities and at New York’s Times Square. The visuals stunned audiences with their grandeur, cementing Ramayana as India’s most ambitious cinematic vision yet.

Release details

The magnum opus is planned as a two-part IMAX release, with Part 1 hitting theatres in Diwali 2026 and Part 2 following in Diwali 2027.
