The pre-release event for Thandel, directed by Chandoo Mondeti and starring Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi, took place in Hyderabad on Sunday. The closed-door event witnessed an emotional moment when Naga Chaitanya shared a personal anecdote involving his wife, actor Sobhita Dhulipala, and her reaction to the film’s song “Bujji Thalli.”

When the anchor Suma asked Chaitanya if there was a particular song or dialogue from the film that he would like to dedicate to his wife, he revealed that the song “Bujji Thalli” held a special meaning for them.

Chaitanya candidly shared, “I would dedicate the Bujji Thalli song to Sobhita because I call her ‘bujji thalli’ at home. I told Chandoo this before we made the film.” He elaborated that this nickname, which loosely translates to “loved one,” was something he had used exclusively for Sobhita.

However, things took a bittersweet turn when the song was released. “She felt bad when we released the song because she felt it was exclusive to her, and I used it in the film,” Chaitanya admitted, shedding light on the emotional dynamics behind the scenes.

Chandoo Mondeti, the film’s director, also weighed in on the situation. He recounted an interaction with Sobhita during one of the couple’s wedding events, where she expressed her feelings about the use of the nickname in the film. “I was actually surprised. When I attended one of their wedding events, she told me that her nickname was bujji thalli. She said, ‘I let it be when you used it in the film, but now you’ve made a song too?’”

For those unfamiliar with the context, Chaitanya’s character in Thandel, Raju, affectionately calls Pallavi’s character, Satya, bujji thalli. The song, composed by Devi Sri Prasad and sung by Javed Ali, has already become a highlight of the film’s soundtrack. It embodies the deep emotions of love and endearment, but its personal connection to Chaitanya’s life gave it an added layer of sentimentality.

The pre-release event wasn’t without its share of controversies. Allu Arjun, who was expected to attend the event, was notably absent, leaving fans disappointed. The producers, including Arjun’s father Allu Aravind and Bunny Vas, had promised his appearance but later announced that Arjun was dealing with “severe gastritis.” This last-minute update added to the buzz surrounding the event.

As for the film itself, Thandel is based on a real-life incident involving fishermen from Srikakulam who accidentally ventured into Pakistani waters while fishing. With its unique storyline and heartfelt performances, the film is set to release in theaters on February 7.
