Rhea Chakraborty gets notice from Mumbai court

Actor Rhea Chakraborty has received a notice from a Mumbai magistrate court regarding the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) recent closure report regarding the case she filed against his sisters.

The report is the latest development in the legal proceedings surrounding the untimely death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

The notice relates to Rhea's 2020 complaint about Sushant's sisters and a doctor allegedly helping to obtain medication without the required authorisation.

No criminality could be proven against the individuals listed in the complaint, according to the CBI's closure report, which was formally submitted in March 2025. However, the court has now called for a response from the original informant, Chakraborty, as part of due process.

Magistrate R D Chavan stated during the hearing, “Issue notice to the original informant / victim / aggrieved person,” and subsequently adjourned the matter until confirmation of the notice's delivery. Chakraborty has been directed to file her response by 12 August. The issuance of this notice ensures that the complainant is granted the opportunity to challenge or raise objections against the closure of the case.

Priyanka Singh and Meetu Singh, the sisters of Sushant Singh Rajput, were named in Rhea's initial FIR, which was filed in 2020, along with Dr. Tarun Nathu Ram.

She claimed in her complaint that the three were complicit in Rajput's prescription medication acquisition without a legitimate medical consultation.

Despite his mental illness, she claimed that Rajput, who had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, frequently stopped taking his medication and that it had been arranged via text messages. She also claimed that the prescription was fake.

The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) were cited in the FIR.

On June 14, 2020, 34-year-old Sushant Singh Rajput was discovered dead at his Bandra residence, leading to a widely reported investigation.

The CBI has now moved to close the case, despite Rajput's father filing a separate FIR in Patna, which claimed that Chakraborty and her family had engaged in financial exploitation and abetment, charges she has categorically denied. After examining Chakraborty's formal response, the court will take further action.
