Mohanlal’s recent release Thudarum is performing exceedingly well at the box office and has been running to packed houses ever since it opened on April 25, 2025, forcing the makers to push back its digital release.
The highly anticipated OTT launch of Thudarum (originally slated to premiere on JioHotstar) could be delayed as a result of the film’s splendid business at the box office, according to a 123 Telugu report. With most movies arriving on streaming platforms no earlier than a month after release, Thudarum appears likely to break the norm as it continues to pull in audiences.
Postponing the digital release is a result of the film doing remarkably well, especially in Kerala. According to a recent IBTimes report, Thudarum has netted over Rs 108.80 crore just in its home state— a remarkable achievement that once again proves that Mohanlal is an unparalleled star and the film is benefiting from rock-solid word of mouth.
Incidentally, the success of Thudarum’s box office debut has had a domino effect, with the producers of Mohanlal’s evergreen hit Chotta Mumbai deciding to push back its re-release that was planned for May 21, 2025, to coincide with the superstar’s birthday.
Emotionally engaging and gripping with its precision, Thudarum dwells on the life of Shanmugham, popularly referred to as Benz, a man who lives a happy life along with his household members in the hill station of Pathanamthitta. The black Ambassador car he owns is something he values even more as a family member.
But Benz’s universe is soon spun as his car gets swept up in a police enquiry, and he is faced with a series of unforeseen challenges. Throughout the story, Benz learns to deal with a life-changing result that challenges his strength and determination.

Mohanlal’s Thudarum ensemble cast Thudarum has a strong cast line-up in Shobana, who stars opposite the Drishyam actor, with actors Prakash Varma, Farhaan Faasil, Maniyanpilla Raju, Binu Pappu, Irshad Ali, Aarsha Chandini Baiju, and more in other pivotal roles. Their combined activities add weight to this emotional thriller.
What’s Next for Mohanlal?
Mohanlal bags a blockbuster again following Thudarum. Mohanlal has completed shooting for Hridayapoorvam, helmed by veteran director Sathyan Anthikad. He even has a cameo role in the mythological actioner Kannappa, which shows his sheer range.
Fans might have to wait to see Thudarum get an OTT release, but its theatrical run is refusing to slow down — further establishing itself as one of the biggest Malayalam hits of the year.
