Renowned Telugu lyricist and writer Siva Shakthi Datta passed away at his residence in Manikonda on 7 July, leaving a significant void in the world of Indian cinema.
Datta was well-known in the Telugu film industry for his skill at writing lyrics that were infused with Sanskrit. In addition, he was the uncle of the innovative filmmaker SS Rajamouli and the father of the well-known music composer MM Keeravaani.
Age-related health problems had been plaguing the 92-year-old artist for a while. Even though he died on Monday, word of his passing surfaced the next day. Megastar Chiranjeevi expressed his condolences in Telugu and confirmed the tragic news in a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter).
It read, “The news that Sri Siva Shakthi Datta, a painter, scholar of the Sanskrit language, writer, storyteller, and multifaceted genius, has attained divine union has left me deeply shocked. Praying to the Almighty that his soul finds peace... I express my profound condolences to my friend Keeravani garu and his family members.”
Siva Shakthi Datta was a multi-talented individual who was born in Kovvu, close to Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, in 1932 under the name Koduri Subbarao. He was a painter, screenwriter, and lyricist. He is renowned for writing moving and unforgettable lyrics for classic films like Baahubali, RRR, Magadheera, HanuMan, Sye, Rajanna, and Sri Ramadasu.
Strong songs like "Anjandri Theme Song," "Amma Avani," "Raamam Raghavam," "Nalla Nallani Kalla," "Agni Skalana," and "Mannela Thintivira" are among his most notable contributions.
His funeral was scheduled to take place in Hyderabad on Tuesday. Fans, artists, and industry colleagues flooded social media platforms with tributes, remembering Datta's immense contribution to Telugu cinema and his poetic legacy that transcended generations.
