The Mizo music industry is in deep mourning following the loss of singer Feli Fanai, a beloved figure in the region’s music scene.

Known for her distinct voice and captivating performances, Fanai made a lasting impact with her contributions to contemporary Mizo music. Her fans, fellow musicians, and public figures have all shared heartfelt tributes across social media platforms, reflecting the profound influence she had on the music world.

After a long battle with illness, Fanai spent a significant amount of time in intensive care before passing away at Aizawl's Ebenezer Medical Centre at 2:15 am on Wednesday, at the age of 33. Her untimely death has sent shockwaves throughout Mizoram and beyond.

Tributes have been flooding in, as her passing marks the loss of not only a talented artist but also a beloved icon in the Mizo music scene. Her unique contributions to contemporary music will remain a cherished part of the region’s cultural legacy.

Chief Minister Lalduhoma was among those who paid tribute to the singer, offering his condolences on Instagram. "As Mizos across the world mourn the untimely death of Feli Fanai, I too deeply grieve her passing. Her invaluable contributions to the Mizo music industry, her melodious voice, and her mesmerising stage presence will forever be etched in our hearts. Whenever we speak of Mizo female singers, her name will always be remembered. May her soul rest in peace, and may God comfort her bereaved family," the chief minister wrote.

Following her death, Feli's body was taken to her hometown of Champhai, near the Myanmar border, where her final rites will take place on Thursday.

Fanai was not merely a singer but an icon who redefined contemporary Mizo music with her unique style and captivating music videos. As one of the leading artists to introduce neo-Mizo pop, she infused fresh aesthetics and modern influences into the regional music scene. Her musical journey began at a young age with the release of her song "Min Hlan Leh La."
