The much-awaited political thriller 'Match Fixing', directed by Kedaar Gaekwad, has announced a new release date. The film is now scheduled to hit theaters on January 17, 2025.
Originally set for release on November 15, the film's premiere was postponed due to legal issues. One of the delays stemmed from a petition filed in the NIA court by an individual linked to the Malegaon Blast case, who expressed concerns that the film might impact public perceptions of his ongoing trial.
In response to the concerns, the producers of 'Match Fixing' clarified that the film has no connection to the Malegaon case. The producer further explained that the film is inspired by the book 'Truth Behind Saffron Terror', written by retired Colonel Kanwar Khatana and published in 2020.
The book, explores a narrative of alleged political conspiracies and cross-border intrigue involving intelligence agencies of India and Pakistan.
“This film isn’t about the Malegaon case. It’s a broader look at a series of attacks in the early 2000s and the potential political dynamics shaping public perception. We respect the judicial process and have taken care to ensure that this film does not interfere with the Malegaon case currently before the court,” said producer of the film, Pallavi Gurjar.
The film’s storyline centers on a series of terror attacks that, according to the narrative, were allegedly orchestrated by political players to frame members of opposition parties.
Director Kedaar Gaekwad commented on the project’s challenges, stating, “Ideating and executing this project has been very challenging for our team. We have approached the subject with both responsibility and sensitivity without taking unnecessary creative liberties.” According to Gaekwad, the film aims to offer a fresh perspective on the narrative around terrorism in India, tracing a series of events that culminated in the tragic and dastardly 26/11 terror attacks, which is one of the bloodiest terror attacks in modern history.
Produced by Pallavi Gurjar under Artarena Creations Private Limited, 'Match Fixing' stars Vineet Kumar, Anuja Sathe, and Manoj Joshi, among others. The film features a screenplay written by Anuj S. Mehta.
