Avengers fans have been eagerly waiting to witness the highly anticipated return of Robert Downey Jr. in a brand new role in the upcoming Doomsday. The actor was all set to wear the mask of Marvel villain Vincent Van Doom, aka Doctor Doom, after his OG character Iron Man’s death.
The studio has recently shared a disappointing update for the fans. Disney, which is now the parent company of Marvel Studios, announced on Thursday that two most-awaited films have been delayed.
Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars were scheduled to hit the theatres on May 1, 2026, and May 2, 2027, respectively.
However, the studio has postponed the films and announced the new release dates of the upcoming Avengers. Avengers: Doomsday will now release on December 18, 2026. Meanwhile, Avengers: Secret Wars is now slated for December 17, 2027.
The shooting of Doomsday kicked off this year with the announcement of the cast during a five-hour live stream, creating a buzz among the fans. The film is currently under production.

Meanwhile, the sources have told Deadline that the new schedule was selected to give filmmakers extra time to finish the massive superhero movies, which are among Disney's biggest projects ever, said a source close to the matter.
The upcoming Avengers films are a part of Phase VI of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Directed by Russo Brothers, the films are said to be the biggest in the franchise following the blockbuster Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War, which grossed over $2 billion each worldwide.
