Malayalam director Shafi experienced a stroke on January 16 and was quickly admitted to a private hospital in Kochi. According to The Hindu, he is currently in critical condition.
As reported by The Hindu, director Shafi is currently in the neurosurgical intensive care unit at Aster Medcity Hospital, with his condition still critical, as confirmed by the hospital's public relations team on Tuesday, January 21.
Shafi made his directorial debut in 2001 with One Man Show, and he has directed more than 10 films over the course of his two-decade career. Shafi is also the younger brother of Rafi, who forms half of the well-known writer-director duo Rafi Mecartin, and his uncle is the renowned director Siddique.

A celebrated filmmaker known for his successful comedy films, some of his biggest hits at the box office include Kalyanaraman, Pulival Kalyanam, Thommanum Makkalum, Mayavi, and Marykkonduru Kunjaadu.
While further updates on Shafi's health are yet to be disclosed, his legacy in the film industry is well-established.
