Malavika Mohanan can’t stop smiling these days. Hridayapoorvam, her latest release with Mohanlal, has turned into one of those career-defining films that actors dream about.
The buzz around the movie is huge, but what makes it more special for her is sharing screen space with a man she grew up watching on TV, the legendary Mohanlal.
Malavika on her experience shared “Though I have worked in popular films with big actors before, the difference is that I am a girl who has grown up in a different place. I grew up consuming Hindi films because I was in Mumbai. I watched Malayalam films because of my parents [who are Malayalis]. I did not grow up watching Telugu or Tamil films. So, even though [in these languages] you know how big these actors might be, it is not like Mohanlal, whose films you have watched growing up. That Mohanlal was in front of me, making me feel surreal!”
She further added, “Though I thought that the feeling would be gone in a couple of days, I confess it never left me.”
That sense of wonder hasn’t stopped her from delivering one of her strongest performances yet. Critics are calling Hridayapoorvam a milestone in her career, cementing her as one of the most bankable actresses across industries.
And it’s not like her filmography was light before. From Mammootty in The Great Father to sharing frames with Vijay Sethupathi (Vetta), Vijay (Master), and Dhanush (Maaran), Malavika has ticked off a list of dream collaborations.

And she’s not slowing down. Next up, she stars opposite Prabhas in The Raja Saab. After that, she’s locked in for Sardar 2 with Karthi. Big names, big banner.
For Malavika, though, it circles back to Hridayapoorvam. “It’s not just another film for me,” she said, “It’s one of those projects you carry with you forever.”
