Irrfan Khan honoured in Maharashtra village

Irrfan Khan, one of India’s most beloved actors, continues to be remembered fondly by his fans, with a poignant tribute from a village in Maharashtra’s Nashik district.

In a touching gesture to honour his memory, a neighbourhood in Igatpuri has been renamed “Hero Chi Wadi," which translates to “Neighborhood of a Hero.” This name change is a heartfelt homage to the actor’s enduring impact on the community.

The new name was inspired by Khan’s long-standing connection to the area, where he owned a farmhouse near the Trilangwadi fort for nearly 15 years.

A post shared by “The Culture Gully” on Instagram recently highlighted Khan’s remarkable contributions to the village.

His acts of kindness ranged from donating an ambulance, computers, and books to providing raincoats and sweaters for children. In addition, he funded the construction of school buildings, directly contributing to the improvement of education and infrastructure in the area.

Khan’s generosity towards the local residents further cemented his status as a hero in their eyes. The neighbourhood, previously known as Patryacha Wada, saw a significant transformation under Khan’s patronage, with many of the villagers deeply moved by his philanthropic efforts.

As per reports, Khan’s influence wasn’t just limited to material support. He treated the villagers with respect and kindness, often inviting them into his home and engaging in meaningful conversations. His love for village life was evident as he would share meals, play the guitar for children, and enjoy the simple pleasures of their company.

The villagers, who would travel 30 km to watch his films, remember Khan with immense affection.

As per a report by News 18 Showsha, Gorakh Bodke, a member of the Igatpuri Zilla Parishad, reflected, “Whenever we needed him, he stood by us." This quote underscores the profound bond between Khan and the community, a bond based on genuine care and selflessness.

Irrfan Khan passed away in April 2020 after a brave two-year battle with a neuroendocrine tumour. He is survived by his wife, Sutapa, and their two sons, Babil and Ayan. Despite his untimely death, the legacy of his kindness and generosity continues to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
