Following the immense success of the 2024 financial drama Lucky Bhaskar, director Venky Atluri has confirmed that a sequel is officially in the works.
The film, which emerged as one of Dulquer Salmaan’s most acclaimed performances, struck a chord with audiences thanks to its gripping plot, strong performances, and period-specific authenticity.
In a recent interview reported by 123Telugu, Atluri revealed that he is actively developing the script for Lucky Bhaskar 2. He clarified that, unlike his earlier directorial venture Sir (which starred Dhanush and also received widespread praise), the film will not have a sequel. “Lucky Bhaskar is a story I feel still has more to say,” he hinted, fuelling fans’ excitement.
Currently, the filmmaker is occupied with his next big project, Suriya 46, which stars Tamil cinema icon Suriya. Despite the tight schedule, Atluri confirmed that the sequel to Lucky Bhaskar remains a top priority and will move forward once filming for Suriya 46 is complete.
Released last year, Lucky Bhaskar featured Dulquer Salmaan in the lead as Bhaskar, a modest bank cashier from Bombay’s lower-middle-class strata. Set in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the film navigated Bhaskar’s descent into the murky world of financial scams as he attempts to lift his family out of poverty, all while battling mounting debts and societal humiliation.
The period thriller was lauded not only for its narrative intensity but also for its authentic portrayal of Bombay’s financial underbelly during a volatile era. Dulquer’s nuanced performance drew widespread acclaim and is often cited as one of the standout roles of his career.
Meenakshi Chaudhary starred opposite Dulquer, lending emotional depth to the story. The supporting cast included Rajendra Prasad, Ravi Prakash, and Ajay Ghosh, each contributing meaningfully to the film’s success. Music was composed by GV Prakash Kumar, whose soundtrack subtly underscored the film’s tense and emotive beats.
Dulquer Salmaan, meanwhile, is gearing up for his next release, Aakasam Lo Oka Tara, helmed by Pavan Sadineni. The film’s promotional poster, which showcases Dulquer in traditional attire against a rustic rural backdrop, suggests a rooted, earthy drama. It is set for a multilingual release, including Malayalam and Hindi.
With the sequel to Lucky Bhaskar now on the horizon, fans can look forward to another chapter in the life of the compelling character who captured hearts and headlines.
