Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch has smashed box office records since its release on May 23, 2025, becoming the first Hollywood movie of the year to cross the $1 billion mark worldwide.
Throughout its theatrical run, the film, which is a reimagining of the beloved Walt Disney Animation Studios animated classic from 2002, has continuously surpassed industry expectations.
After eight weekends in theaters, Lilo & Stitch has earned an impressive $416.1 million in North America and $584.8 million from international markets, bringing its global total to a staggering $1.001 billion. Despite this landmark achievement, China’s animated juggernaut Ne Zha 2 continues to dominate 2025’s box office charts with a massive $1.899 billion haul.
Without taking inflation into consideration, the list also includes Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine ($1.328 billion) and Pixar's Inside Out 2 ($1.698 billion), in addition to Rideback's Lilo & Stitch and the eagerly anticipated Moana sequel.
With a record-breaking $183 million over the course of the four-day Memorial Day weekend, Lilo & Stitch made its debut and helped create the largest Memorial Day box office ever. It debuted with Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, which was distributed by Paramount.
According to The Hollywood Reporter and other reports, the movie has solidified its position as the year's highest-grossing foreign Hollywood release.
In addition to being the best-performing movie of 2025 in a number of foreign countries, including France, Italy, Spain, Brazil, and a few smaller markets throughout Europe and Latin America, it has made history by becoming Disney's highest-grossing live-action movie ever in Mexico.
Disney's film empire, which has now produced four billion-dollar films in the last 13 months, has achieved yet another triumph with this milestone.
