Lil Nas X has finally broken his silence following his dramatic arrest in Los Angeles earlier this month. The Grammy-winning rapper, real name Montero Lamar Hill, took to Instagram on Tuesday to address fans after four tense days in custody.
“Your girl is gonna be OK, y’all,” he said in a short video message. “That was f***ing terrifying. That was terrifying. That was a terrifying last four days but your girl’s gonna be all right.”
The 26-year-old was taken into custody on August 21 after police say they found him walking in just his underwear along Ventura Boulevard around 6 a.m. According to authorities, when officers approached him, Hill allegedly charged at them, leading to a scuffle and his arrest.
Due to suspicions of an overdose, he was first taken to a hospital and later booked on $75,000 bail, with conditions requiring drug treatment. On Monday, Hill formally pleaded not guilty to three counts of battery on a police officer and one felony count of resisting an executive officer.
The Los Angeles County district attorney, Nathan J. Hochman, called the charges serious. “Attacking police officers is more than just a crime against those individuals but a direct threat to public safety,” he said in a statement.
Hill’s lawyer, Christy O’Connor, pushed back in court. “Assuming the allegations here are true, this is an absolute aberration in this person’s life. Nothing like this has ever happened to him,” she said.
Meanwhile, Hill’s father, Robert Stafford, strongly denied drugs were involved. “Absolutely not,” he told reporters, adding that his son is “in good spirits” and “very remorseful for what happened.”
For fans, the episode has been shocking. Lil Nas X, who shot to fame with Old Town Road and later hits like Montero (Call Me by Your Name) and Industry Baby, is known for pushing boundaries in music and pop culture.
