Bhumi Pednekar and Ishaan Khatter starrer Netflix show The Royals recently landed in controversy for its plotline. However, actress Lakshmi Manchu has recently chimed in to defend Bhumi for her performance and the Netflix show.
During a recent interview with Hindustan Times, Lakshmi insisted that she was baffled by the criticism and praised Bhumi and Ishaan’s looks in the show.
She said, “Everyone who is trashing The Royals, saying it is not a Netflix kind of show and other things... I want to say one thing to them. Ishaan looked really hot, and Bhumi was wearing fabulous clothes.”
She further noted, “It was a mind-numbing show, and that's all I needed.” Lakshmi also claimed that she doesn’t always want to see Bhumi in meaningful performances adding, “I didn't care for a deep, meaningful performance. I've seen enough of Bhumi doing that in the past.”
Lakshmi continued, “I know she can deliver, and that she is a brilliant actor. But here she is having fun, wearing beautiful clothes and giving us a royal treatment of India.”
She then defended Netflix’s The Royals and pointed to the abundance of dark and intense content on OTT platforms, citing Paatal Lok as an example.
Lakshmi’s comment came after The Royals received a lukewarm response from audiences. Several viewers took to social media to express disappointment with the highly anticipated series, citing the lack of chemistry between the lead actors and a weak, superficial screenplay.
The series also stars Nora Fatehi, Sakshi Tanwar and Dino Morea in the pivotal roles.
The Royals follows a handsome young prince who falls for a girl who runs India's first luxury hotel. The meeting of these two worlds, the declining aristocracy and unbridled capitalism, generates a whirlwind of ambition, conflict and romance.
