Singer and actor Yim Si-wan is stepping into a new era of his career — this time, not as an actor or an idol group member, but as a solo artist.

The multi-talented star will make his long-awaited solo debut next month with his first EP, The Reason, set to release on 5 December, his agency SMArt confirmed on Friday.

The mini-album will feature five tracks, each exploring a different sound and emotion, with the title song The Reason taking centre stage.

Though the full tracklist and concept remain under wraps, excitement is already building among fans eager to hear Yim’s personal sound, a decade after he first entered the music scene.

Yim first made his debut as part of the K-pop boy band ZE:A (Children of Empire) in 2010. While the group earned popularity for its energetic performances and catchy hits, Yim soon carved out his own identity as an actor, winning hearts with his sincerity and emotional depth on screen.

His breakout role came with the critically acclaimed drama Misaeng: Incomplete Life (2014), followed by memorable performances in the film The Attorney (2013) and, more recently, Netflix’s global hit Squid Game Seasons 2 and 3 (2024–2025).

Despite his success in acting, Yim never lost his connection to music. With The Reason, he returns to his roots — not as part of a group, but as an individual ready to express his own stories and emotions.

His agency SMArt shared that the album “captures Yim's previously unreleased musical tastes and delicate sensibility, offering listeners a new side of him as a solo artist.”

Insiders say the project will likely blend pop, soft rock, and heartfelt ballads, reflecting Yim’s introspective nature and creative maturity. Fans are already flooding social media with messages of support, saying they’ve been waiting years to hear his voice in a more personal setting.
