Comedian Park Na Rae has announced an indefinite suspension of all broadcasting activities as she faces mounting public criticism over allegations of verbal abuse, special assault, exploitation of her former managers, and illegal medical practices.
The controversy, which escalated rapidly over the past week, has led to significant scrutiny of both her conduct and her management practices.
On December 8, Park Na Rae took to her personal social media account to issue a formal statement addressing the situation. She revealed that tensions began when two of her longtime managers abruptly resigned in early November, leaving her unable to speak with them directly until recently.
“In early November, two managers who were like family to me suddenly resigned, and until recently, I did not have the opportunity to speak with them, which led to misunderstandings between us,” she wrote.
After finally meeting with them, Park claimed that the three were able to resolve some of their issues. “We were able to clear up the misunderstandings and distrust between us, but I still believe everything is my fault and I am deeply reflecting on it,” she stated, adding that the experience prompted her decision to step away from entertainment activities.
Citing her responsibility as a public figure, she announced her hiatus, “As a comedian whose profession is to bring laughter and joy, I have decided to suspend all broadcasting activities until everything is thoroughly resolved, as I feel I can no longer cause trouble for programs and colleagues.” She ended her message with an apology, saying she “deeply apologize(s) once again to everyone who has believed in and supported me.”
The conflict escalated on December 3, when Park was served with a provisional seizure application at the Seoul Western District Court.
Her former managers accused her of verbal abuse, special assault, forced proxy medical prescriptions, non-payment of emcee fees, and assigning excessive personal chores during their employment at her one-person agency.
Park’s representatives responded on December 5, denying the accusations. They claimed the former managers had worked with her for about 15 months and allegedly demanded 10% of the agency’s total revenue in addition to already provided severance pay.
When Park refused, they allegedly made “false claims, causing unnecessary misunderstandings and pressure,” prompting her to pursue legal action.
However, public concern deepened as it emerged that Park Na Rae was under investigation for violating medical laws, including receiving proxy prescriptions and psychotropic drugs, and breaching the Cultural Industry Development Act by operating an unregistered one-person agency.
