aespa’s Winter has once again become the center of conversation online, not for a musical release or a performance, but for her calm and composed public appearance amid intensifying dating rumours linking her to BTS’ Jungkook.

The speculation, which ignited after alleged “proof” circulated online, has led to a wave of discourse, criticism, and heated debate between fans and non-fans across platforms.

While both HYBE and SM Entertainment remained firm on their respective stances, dismissing the rumours, the situation continued brewing online. Amid this noise, aespa proceeded with their scheduled fansign, offering the first public glimpse of Winter since the controversy escalated.

A photo of Winter at the event quickly spread on Korean community forum Nate Pann. The post garnered significant attention, with many praising her for maintaining professionalism despite the online uproar.

Netizens expressed relief that Winter appeared supported and encouraged by fans attending the event. Korean netizens noted that most of the harsh criticism seemed to come from long-time haters or individuals who were never fans to begin with. As one commenter wrote, “She’s a girl group member anyway, it’s not like she relies on fanservice with male fans or anything. Whether she gets dating rumors or not, who even cares. Looking now, it’s only the haters freaking out by themselves lol. The well-known fans didn’t even leave the fandom.”

Others pointed out that SM Entertainment’s silence was expected, emphasising that Winter had little she could publicly say even if she wanted to.

One netizen defended her professionalism, commenting, “The company didn’t release a statement and probably issued a no-comment order. What can she even say? For the fans who spent a lot of money to be there, the best she can do right now is smile brightly. I don’t get why people who aren’t even fans are yelling about ‘betrayal’.”

Many pushed back against those claiming disappointment, writing, “Actual fans aren’t leaving, but girls who aren’t even fans are doing the whole ‘betrayal’ act and whining. It’s hilarious lol. Why are you mad? LOL You just hated aespa from the start and now you’re pretending to be disappointed like you ever liked them. So funny. Girl-group fandoms barely have parasocial fans anyway lol.”

Several commenters also praised aespa’s fandom culture, noting its maturity and nuance. One user wrote, “I swear I’m not even their fan, but their fans seem seriously mature. They criticize the wrongdoing when needed, but also love and support her when they want to. How do they all share that mindset? Isn’t a real fan someone who scolds her until she snaps out of it and still embraces her afterwards? If everyone leaves the moment there’s a controversy, is that even a fan?”

As Winter continues her scheduled activities without pause, many see her calm public demeanor as a strong counter to the noise surrounding the dating rumours.
