Kannada actor Kichcha Sudeep turned down the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actor shortly after it was announced, recognising his performance in the 2019 film Pailwaan.
He explained that his decision was rooted in a personal commitment he made years ago to refrain from accepting awards, a principle he wishes to uphold. Sudeep further emphasised that his focus remains on the work he does for his audience, rather than seeking recognition or accolades.
His decision has sparked appreciation for his principled stance, highlighting his dedication to the craft over external validation.
Taking to his X account, Sudeep mentioned, "Respected Government of Karnataka and Members of the Jury, It is truly a privilege to have received the state award under the best actor category, and I extend my heartfelt thanks to the respected jury for this honor. However, I must express that I have chosen to stop receiving awards for several years now, a decision made for various personal reasons that I intend to uphold. There are many deserving actors who have poured their hearts into their craft and would appreciate this prestigious recognition far more than I would. It will only make me happier to see one of them receiving it."

On January 22, the Karnataka government revealed the winners of the State Annual Film Awards for 2019. Kannada actor Kichcha Sudeep was named Best Actor, while Anupama Gowda was honored as Best Actress.
The awards celebrate exceptional performances in Kannada cinema, recognising talent and contribution to the industry. Sudeep's portrayal in Pailwaan earned him the top honor, while Anupama's outstanding performance also garnered well-deserved recognition.
Despite his win, Sudeep's decision to decline the award sparked a discussion on personal choices in the industry, with many respecting his stance on not accepting accolades.
According to the release issued by the government, the five-year delay in the state awards was a result of the pandemic. Additionally, the state has yet to announce the awards for films released between 2020 and 2024.
