One of the year's most anticipated films, Kesari Chapter 2 starring Ananya Panday, R. Madhavan, and Akshay Kumar has finally released and its day 1 collection is here.
The film explores the horrific events of the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre and the ensuing legal battle, shedding light on a profoundly important but under-represented period of Indian history. Critics and viewers alike praised the film's gripping courtroom drama and strong performances when it first came out.
As per the latest box office update from Sacnilk, Kesari Chapter 2 garnered a collection of Rs 7.5 crore on its opening day, based on early estimates. While this marks a respectable start, the figure falls short of Akshay Kumar’s previous release, Sky Force, which earned Rs 12.25 crore on its debut day earlier this year in January.
Titled Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh, the film features Akshay Kumar as C. Sankaran Nair, a determined and principled lawyer who risked everything to challenge the British Raj and bring to light the brutal truth behind the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. R. Madhavan stars as Advocate Neville McKinley, a formidable legal adversary, while Ananya Panday plays the role of Dilreet Gill, a young and courageous woman aiding Nair in his pursuit of justice.
The film, which was directed by Karan Singh Tyagi for the first time, is a historical courtroom drama. It has a strong production team behind it, with Cape of Good Films, Leo Media Collective, and Dharma Productions working together to bring this powerful and poignant tale to the big screen.
Industry analysts are hopeful about Kesari Chapter 2's box office trajectory, citing strong word-of-mouth and increasing weekend foot traffic, even though the opening day figures may not have met Sky Force's expectations. The film is expected to gain momentum in the days ahead due to its powerful subject matter and the outstanding performances by the main cast.
A part of Moneycontrol.com review read, "Akshay Kumar delivers one of his more subdued and controlled performances as Sankaran Nair. Refraining from his usual flair for theatrics, Kumar brings quiet authority to the role, reflecting a man torn between loyalty and conscience. Ananya Pandey surprises in her portrayal of Dilreet, offering a grounded performance that peaks during her intense courtroom cross-examination scene. R. Madhavan—though he enters the narrative a bit late—manages to make a significant impression"
