Kaun Banega Crorepati 17 had one of those tense nights on September 8. On the hot seat was Abhishek, a young IAS aspirant. Despite a strong start in the game, his journey was ended at the Rs 7.5 lakh question, a tricky one that stumped not just him but also the audience failed to answer it.
Abhishek comes from a modest background, living with his parents in a single-room home. His dream to crack the civil services and someday buy a proper house for his family. His mother proudly shared on the show that he was once a district topper. Host Amitabh Bachchan, delighted at sharing his son’s name with the contestant, gave him a warm welcome and plenty of encouragement.
The game began well. He cleared the early rounds and used his first lifeline, the audience poll, on the Rs 50,000 question about how Lord Vishnu’s gem, Kaustubh, was obtained in Hindu mythology. With their help, he picked the right answer: From Samudra Manthan.
Momentum carried him forward. He answered the Rs 1 lakh and Rs 2 lakh questions easily, then used a 50:50 lifeline to achieve Rs 5 lakh mark. But it was the Rs 7.5 lakh question that he got stuck on:
“The national language of which country has evolved from the Tagalog language spoken by the major ethnic group?”
Options: A. Malaysia | B. Philippines | C. Laos | D. Indonesia
After using his final lifeline, the audience poll, Abhishek went with Laos. Unfortunately, it was wrong. The correct answer was Philippines.
Even with the misstep, Abhishek didn’t leave empty-handed. He walked away with Rs 5 lakh.
