British actress Kate Beckinsale has announced the heartbreaking death of her mother, Judy Loe, following a battle with stage 4 cancer. Judy passed away on July 15, 2025, at the age of 78. The devastating news was shared by the Underworld and Serendipity star in a deeply emotional Instagram tribute posted on July 17.
Beckinsale, 51, revealed that her beloved mother died in her arms after enduring immense suffering. The actress expressed that she was only sharing the news publicly due to having to register her mother’s death certificate, which would soon become part of the public record. “I don’t want to post this,” she wrote. “She died the night of July 15th in my arms after immeasurable suffering.”
The tribute included a carousel of touching photos capturing tender moments between the mother-daughter duo, along with a raw and heartfelt caption that gave fans a glimpse into the depth of their bond. Kate noted that she had not chosen the best photos or videos, as the pain of looking through her memories was still too overwhelming.
Judy Loe, an accomplished actress in her own right, was best known for her role as Dr. Helen Sanders in the final seasons of the drama General Hospital and for portraying Princess May in the ATV historical drama Edward the Seventh. Throughout her career, she made several guest appearances in notable British television series, earning admiration for her talent and grace.

In her tribute, Kate called her mother the “compass” and “love” of her life. She praised Judy’s generosity, bravery, and unwavering belief in the goodness of people, describing her presence as “vast” despite her petite frame. “The world is so dim without her that it is nearly impossible to bear,” she wrote.
The loss comes after Kate cared for her mother throughout her illness, even recently sharing a video of herself singing to Judy at her hospital bedside. The emotional statement concluded with a powerful message of grief and love: “Mama, I love you so much. This has been my greatest fear since finding my father dead at five, and I am here. Oh my Mama... I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. I am so sorry.”
