Kartik Aaryan untitled film will not release this year

Bollywood actor Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela’s yet-to-be-titled upcoming romance drama has recently been pushed to a new release date. The film was initially slated for Diwali 2025 release, but the makers have decided to postpone the film to 2026.

The initial reports have suggested that Kartik’s film and Mohit Suri’s recently released movie, Saiyaara, have a similar theme with both stories exploring the lives of rising music stars and their star-crossed love stories.

The reports further suggested that the crew of the upcoming film wanted to avoid any direct comparisons and postponed the film rewrite and reshoot certain portions.

In a recent interview with India Today, filmmaker Anurag Basu has debunked all the reports and revealed that he was aware of Mohit Suri’s script for a long time. He also suggested that the storyline of Saiyaara was no surprise for him.

The filmmaker said, “Given that both films feature performers as central characters, we knew comparisons would be drawn. But the two films are completely different from each other.”

However, Anurag Basu notably confirmed the delay in the film’s release and cited Kartik’s other films as reason.

Anurag Basu said, “Kartik was busy with Karan Johar’s film ('Tu Meri Main Tera, Main Tera Tu Meri'), and I was also occupied with Metro’s release. We’ll soon move on to our next schedule and aim to wrap the film soon.”

However, the latest update came after Anurag Basu showered praise on Mohit Suri after Saiyaara's release. He took to his official X (Formerly Twitter) and wrote, “Mohito @mohit11481!! tight jhappi ! you're an absolute rockstar! Hands down, this is your best work yet. I legit cried like a heartbroken teenager during the climax. Thank you for giving us two incredible actors!Bravo, maestro #Saiyaara @yrf.”
