Kangana Ranaut old comments on Hollywood resurface on internet

Kangana Ranaut is about to make her international film debut after years of garnering attention for her fearsome roles and audacious declarations.

According to Variety, the outspoken Bollywood actress will soon make her Hollywood debut in the horror drama Blessed Be the Evil.

Kangana will co-star with Tyler Posey from Teen Wolf and Scarlet Rose Stallone from Tulsa King, joining the growing number of Indian actors who have made the move to Hollywood, including Priyanka Chopra, Aishwarya Rai, Deepika Padukone, and Alia Bhatt.

Interestingly, this marks a significant shift in Kangana's stance. In a 2017 interview with Mid-Day, she had expressed a clear disinterest in pursuing opportunities in the West.

“It would be stupid for anyone to make the move to the West now. Their theatre business is crashing because of the influx of digital media. Asia, on the other hand, is where Hollywood was 15 years ago. It is a lucrative time for entertainment here. These are baits that I won't fall prey to,” she had stated candidly.

Kangana further elaborated, “If an American film [The Jungle Book, 2016] is doing Rs 100 crore business, and not all our films are able to, we may not find adequate screens for home-bred films 10 years down the line. I'm all for world cinema, but it needs to be a film that brings employment and money into our country. I don't wish to offer myself on a platter to another industry.”

She will now co-lead Blessed Be the Evil, which is scheduled to start production in New York this summer, almost ten years later. Producers point out that the location was chosen strategically in order to avoid any issues related to the recently announced tariffs imposed by the Trump administration on the industry.

The film, which was directed by Anurag Rudra and co-written by Lions Movies founder and president Gatha Tiwary, centres on a Christian couple dealing with the emotional fallout from a miscarriage. They buy a long-abandoned farm in the hopes of starting over, but they are put to the test by a malevolent force that challenges their faith and love.

With this horror drama, Kangana will be able to take her film career outside of India and start a new chapter in her storied and frequently contentious career.
