Veteran actress Tanuja turned 82 on Tuesday, and the day was marked with love, warmth, and a heartfelt note from her daughter Kajol. Taking to her Instagram, Kajol described her mother as “Maa Durga, Maa Kali, Maa Chandi all rolled into one,” a tribute that reflected the awe and gratitude she feels toward the woman who shaped her life.

Sharing glimpses from the intimate celebration, Kajol posted pictures of Tanuja surrounded by family—daughters Kajol and Tanisha, granddaughter Nysa, and close friends. Alongside the visuals, she wrote, “Happy birthday to #Maadurga #Maakali #Maachandi etc all rolled into one. I am so blessed that I have her! Tanuja, born into a film family, is the daughter of actress Shobhna Samarth and producer Kumarsen Samarth. She is also the younger sister of the legendary actress Nutan. Married to filmmaker Shomu Mukherjee, Tanuja carried forward a remarkable cinematic legacy of her own.

Her career spanned across Hindi and Bengali cinema, with memorable roles in films like Memdidi, Chand Aur Suraj, Baharen Phir Bhi Aayengi, Jewel Thief, Jeene Ki Raah, Haathi Mere Saathi, Anubhav, and Mere Jeevan Saathi. In Bengali cinema, she starred in classics such as Deya Neya, Antony Firingee, Teen Bhubaner Pare, Pratham Kadam Phool, and Rajkumari. Her on-screen pairings with stars like Uttam Kumar, Rajesh Khanna, Dharmendra, and Sanjeev Kumar remain fondly remembered by audiences.
