In a move that aims to take the inception of the Indian film industry to the screen, Jr NTR will reportedly play the title role in Made In India, a pan-India biopic inspired by the life and work of Dadasaheb Phalke. Presented by legendary filmmaker, SS Rajamouli, the film was announced in September 2023 being produced by Varun Gupta (Max Studios) and SS Karthikeya (Showing Business).
Promising to be a tribute to the ‘Father of Indian Cinema,’ the docufilm not only endeavours to shed light on the man behind 23 of India’s earliest films, but it will also cover the history and impact of Indian cinema right from back when it first kicked-off, flared up, proved its clout, and how it threatened to end, to finally turning into a giant industry.

According to a report in Pinkvilla, Jr NTR had heard a detailed narration of the final script from Rajamouli, Karthikeya and Varun Gupta — and has verbally given the go-ahead as well.
Tarak is said to have been surprised by the lesser-known stories and struggles of Dadasaheb Phalke. The story is both of Singh’s life and the birth and ascendant journey of Indian cinema. Buzz is that this film is something audiences of Indian cinema have never seen before.
A Genre Shift for Jr NTR
After wrapping up his film with Prashanth Neel, and then one with Nelson Dilipkumar, Jr NTR is set to move away from his action avatar. Made In India will provide the actor a chance to get under the skin of a complex, historically significant character which he hasn’t done before.
“This is not my high-octane kind of role. It’s about narrating a story that influenced Indian culture. NTR Jr. finds it both challenging and an honour,” an insider was quoted in the report.
Made In India is a pan-India biopic based on the life of Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian cinema. Backed by SS Rajamouli, his son SS Karthikeya, and Varun Gupta, the movie will narrate the journey of the Indian film industry. Jr NTR has, after listening to the story in detail, agreed to the project that will have him playing the lead. The movie is in progress with a focus on authenticity and heart.
Though no official confirmation about the director or crew has been made, the film is expected to be very different for Jr NTR as he won’t be featured in an action-packed role but in a content-driven, down-to-earth role. The film will have a multilingual release in India, with more details about the ensemble and the shoot plan to come out soon.
On the other hand, Jr NTR is all set for the release of War 2 on Independence Day weekend. With Made In India in the offing, the actor’s line-up looks increasingly varied and the actor continues to balance mass entertainers with legacy-defining dramas.
