Jeethu Joseph threatened to send legal notice to Hindi makers of Drishyam 3; can't start before the Malayalam version

With original director Jeethu Joseph returning to helm the third installment, the highly anticipated Drishyam 3, starring Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, is presently in development.

Production details are still unknown, but Jeethu recently disclosed how he purposefully stopped the Ajay Devgn-starring Hindi adaptation of Drishyam 3 from being shot before the original Malayalam version.

Jeethu revealed in an interview with Mathrubhumi that preliminary talks were held regarding producing the Hindi and Malayalam versions simultaneously. But he quietly stepped in when the Hindi team thought about going first. "We haven't made a decision on the demands to produce both the Hindi and Malayalam versions simultaneously. At first, there were plans to begin in Hindi, but they changed their minds after receiving a hint that this would be handled legally," said Jeethu.

The Malayalam Drishyam 3 is currently slated to begin production in October 2025.

The film's climax has been written, according to Jeethu Joseph, who is also working on two other projects: Mirage and Valathu Vashathe Kallan.

Speaking at a college function, the director revealed, "Last night, I completed writing Drishyam 3's climax. For a long time, I've been under a lot of pressure. Every day at 3:30 a.m., I get up to write, which is mentally and physically taxing."

Beginning in 2013, the Drishyam franchise centers on George Kutty, a straightforward cable operator whose life is completely upended when his family gets entangled in an enigmatic disappearance case.

The film received widespread praise for its emotional core and deft storytelling, which paved the way for successful remakes in a number of Indian languages.

The third installment piqued interest because the Hindi version, starring Ajay Devgn, was also a huge hit.

Jeethu Joseph's position, however, guarantees that the Malayalam original will continue to take the creative lead in the franchise.

Now that Jeethu's script is coming together and Mohanlal is playing George Kutty again, Drishyam 3 is looking to be one of the most eagerly awaited Indian movies of the past few years.
