Jaideep Ahlawat was shocked to see that actors can’t read Hindi scripts, says, "Isse bura kuch nahi ho sakta”

Jaideep Ahlawat, known for his powerful performances and rooted approach to acting, has sparked a conversation online after expressing his disbelief over a rather surprising reality in the film industry. During a roundtable interview hosted by Filmfare, Jaideep revealed that many actors working in Hindi films cannot read scripts written in Hindi.

“I was shocked to see actors can’t read scripts in Hindi while acting in Hindi movies,” said Jaideep. “Main itna surprise ho gaya main majaak nahi kar raha hoon. Likhi hui Hindi actors ko padhne nahi aati. Agar wo Devanagari mein likha hua hai toh wo nahi padh sakta.”

The actor, visibly disturbed by the revelation, added that this wasn’t just a minor issue, but a reflection of a much deeper disconnect. “Isse bura kuch nahi ho sakta. Agar koi South India se hai toh dikkat nahi hai, but Hindi bhashik actor Hindi nahi padh sakta. Har dusre word pe fumble hai.”

Jaideep went on to highlight how some of these actors manage by reading the lines only when they’re written in Roman script. “Roman mein denge toh padh lenge,” he said, with clear disappointment in his tone.

The moment, captured in a clip now going viral on Reddit and social media, has left fans and fellow artists debating the current state of language proficiency among actors in Bollywood. Many netizens supported Jaideep’s views, saying that being able to read and understand the script in its original form is fundamental to honoring the craft.

This isn’t the first time a seasoned actor has called out the growing trend of superficial engagement with language and literature in the industry. Jaideep’s candid observation serves as a wake-up call for aspiring and current actors alike—to not just perform, but to immerse themselves completely, starting with the very language in which the stories are told.
