Huma Qureshi is having a proud moment on the global stage — and rightfully so. After her latest film Bayaan received glowing reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival, the actress has now taken the film to another major platform: the 30th Busan International Film Festival.

But her trip to South Korea wasn’t just about walking the red carpet. At BIFF 2025, Huma was also honoured at Marie Claire’s prestigious Asia Star Awards, where she received the Face of Asia award.

Taking to the stage to accept the award, she delivered a moving speech that connected with people far beyond the audience in the room, “For a little girl who grew up in a middle-class family in New Delhi, whose father was born in Nizamuddin Basti and whose mother was born in a village in Kashmir, I was always told that acting or even thinking of becoming an actress was not for someone like me. So, to be here and to receive this is validation not just for me, but for all those little girls out there who have been told that certain things are not for them. This is for all the little girls who dare to dream and who don’t take no for an answer.”

Warmth and applause greeted her remarks, which perfectly encapsulated the essence of her journey: shattering stereotypes, questioning conventions, and having the courage to dream large.

Huma's appearance at Busan has further cemented her status as one of India's most vibrant and esteemed actresses as Bayaan continues to make its way through the international festival circuit.
