Two years after declaring an amicable separation, Hugh Jackman, best known for his role as "The Wolverine," and his wife Deborra-Lee Furness are now formally going through with their divorce.
Furness filed the divorce papers on Friday in New York. As per LA Times, All legal formalities have been completed, with only the judge’s signature remaining to finalise the dissolution of their marriage. A spokesperson for Furness did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Tuesday.
In their joint statement issued in September 2023 to People, the couple had shared, “Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.” They also expressed gratitude for their nearly three decades together, describing it as a “wonderful, loving marriage.”
The statement continued, “Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness.” They concluded by requesting privacy as they navigate this transition, “We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives.”
Since the separation, Jackman, famed for roles in “Logan” and “Les Misérables,” has been romantically linked to his “Music Man” co-star, Sutton Foster.
Furness, 69, and Jackman, 56, married in 1996 and share two children. They adopted their son, Oscar, in 2000, followed by the birth of their daughter, Ava, in 2005. Reflecting on their family life in 2018, Jackman told People, “My kids are constantly reminded about how lucky we are in our family. We’re ridiculously blessed. We live in a beautiful home in places that other people dream of.”
According to People, at the time of their separation announcement, an insider revealed the decision was “very hard” but mutual. “It was not a snap decision — they took a lot of time and consideration of everything, and they made this decision together,” the source told People. “They are going on separate journeys, but they will always be a family. They’ll always be co-parents and best friends.”
Their last public appearance as a couple was at the Wimbledon men’s final in July 2023. Earlier that year, they were seen together on the red carpet at the Met Gala in May.
