Hollywood stars Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney have reportedly been at odds lately, with tensions between the two escalating to the point where they allegedly refuse to even stand next to each other at public events.
According to reports by Daily Mail, the actresses, who once shared a close bond while working together on HBO’s Euphoria, have now grown distant.
Sources claim that the two are no longer on speaking terms and make a conscious effort to avoid each other during appearances.
It seems that what started out as creative disputes on the Euphoria set has turned into a personal and even political dispute.
The Daily Mail's sources claim that their divergent political views are the cause of the rift.
Sydney Sweeney, 28, has identified herself as a Republican voter and is well-known for being a supporter of former President Donald Trump. She recently came under fire for her role in an American Eagle jeans ad that was deemed racist because it punned the words "jeans" and "genes."
However, Zendaya allegedly has different political opinions and is not willing to join Sweeney on press conferences for the third season of Euphoria. The 29-year-old actor just finished filming her roles in the show.
When asked about the “genes–jeans” controversy in a GQ interview, Sweeney refused to apologise and firmly stated, “I'm way more aware about things than people think.”
A source close to the production explained, “It's no wonder she's refusing to do it. It's a difficult position for Zendaya to be in because if she even stands next to Sydney on the red carpet, it can be read as her excusing Sydney's views on Trump and her refusal to apologise for the racist ad.”
Despite the ongoing tension, both actresses are expected to share screen space once again in Euphoria Season 3, which is slated for release in 2026 and will feature eight episodes.
