Tom Felton, widely known for his role as Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, has returned to his wizarding roots by reprising the iconic character in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway.

When the British actor took the stage for the first time since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, the audience erupted in cheers, whistles, thunderous applause, and a standing ovation.

Videos from the show that have gone viral on social media captured the emotional moment as Felton stood calmly on stage, maintaining a composed and stoic expression while the audience’s applause continued for over 30 seconds. At one point, he began to say his lines but stopped midway, waiting for the fans to quiet down.

The official Cursed Child account celebrated the moment with a post on Instagram, writing, “It’s true then, what they’re saying on the train. Tom Felton has come to Broadway,” alongside a clip from the show.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child takes place 19 years after the events of the original books and films, following the lives of Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Draco as they send their children off to Hogwarts. The play is based on an original story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany.

The production first opened in London’s West End in 2016, before making its Broadway debut in 2018. Since then, it has been staged in several cities across the world, including Hamburg, Melbourne, Toronto, and Tokyo.

Since the conclusion of the Harry Potter film series, Felton has continued to work both on stage and on screen. He made his West End debut in 2022 as Sam in 2:22 A Ghost Story and later played Bob Edwards in Gareth Farr’s play A Child of Science at the Bristol Old Vic in 2024.

Earlier this year, Felton expressed his excitement about returning to the wizarding world, saying in an official statement, “Joining this production will be a full-circle moment for me, because when I begin performances in Cursed Child this fall, I’ll also be the exact age Draco is in the play. It’s surreal to be stepping back into his shoes – and of course his iconic platinum blond hair – and I am thrilled to be able to see his story through and to share it with the greatest fan community in the world. I look forward to joining this incredible company and being a part of the Broadway community.”

Tom Felton’s return as Draco Malfoy marks a nostalgic and emotional moment for fans, bringing the beloved character back to life on stage while celebrating the actor’s remarkable journey from Hogwarts to Broadway.
