The Smashing Pumpkins cancels India tour

The Smashing Pumpkins, a legendary rock band from Chicago, have disappointed thousands of Indian fans who were anxiously awaiting their arrival by cancelling their long-anticipated first-ever shows in India.

The group had been set to perform at Terraform Arena in Bengaluru on 11 October 2025 and at Jio World Garden in Mumbai on 12 October 2025 as part of their Rock Invasion 2025 Asia Tour.

However, the band announced that unforeseen logistical hurdles had made it impossible to go ahead with the shows.

In a post shared on their official Facebook page on Saturday, the band wrote, “Due to unexpected logistical challenges and conditions out of our control, we have to cancel our two upcoming shows in Bangalore and Mumbai.”

They added, “We cannot perform these shows up to the standards that we and our fans expect.” The message struck a note of sincerity, reflecting the group’s commitment to maintaining the quality of their performances rather than delivering anything less than their best.

The Smashing Pumpkins, which were founded in Chicago in the late 1980s and were led by Billy Corgan, James Iha, and Jimmy Chamberlin, were a key part of the 1990s alternative rock and grunge movement.

Because of their rich, layered sound and intensely emotional lyrics, they have amassed a devoted global fan base over the years. These performances would have been the band's first live appearances in India, which would have been a dream come true for Indian fans.

The band’s touring line-up also includes Jack Bates on bass, Kiki Wong on guitar, and multi-instrumentalist Katie Cole. The India shows were expected to feature a setlist spanning over three decades of music, with classics such as ‘Tonight, Tonight’, ‘Bullet With Butterfly Wings’, ‘Today’, and ‘1979’.

The announcement was also a blow to EVA Live, an event promoter that has brought well-known international performers to India in the past, including Bryan Adams. Disappointed fans vented on social media, with many referring to it as a "missed moment in music history."

As the Rock Invasion 2025 Asia Tour continues with stops in Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates, the Indian leg has been cancelled. The band's first trip back to Asia in more than ten years demonstrates how strong their fan base and influence are even after all these years.

Despite this setback, The Smashing Pumpkins remain a defining force in contemporary rock, with songs like "TUM," "Aghori Mhori Mei," "Sighommi," and "Beguiled" striking a balance between nostalgia and fresh energy.

The respect they have gained from fans worldwide is only strengthened by their dedication to artistic integrity, which is demonstrated in this challenging choice.
