Hollywood star Michael B. Jordan may soon be cruising through the neon-lit streets of Miami.
The Creed and Black Panther actor is in early talks to headline Universal Pictures’ Miami Vice reboot, directed by Joseph Kosinski, the filmmaker behind Top Gun: Maverick and the upcoming F1 film.
If the deal goes through, Jordan will take on the role of Ricardo Tubbs, one half of the legendary crime-fighting duo Crockett & Tubbs.
Fans are eager to see who will finish the partnership that defined cool for a generation, as James "Sonny" Crockett, the other lead, has not yet been cast.
As per the Hollywood Reporter, the captivating blend of glitz and peril that made the first series a pop culture sensation is expected to be returned in the upcoming Miami Vice.
The movie, which is set in the lavish but perilous world of Miami in the 1980s—a city full of palm trees, pastels, and secrets—is said to be inspired by the pilot and first season of the TV series and will honour the aesthetic and narrative that revolutionised television.
Miami Vice, which was created by Anthony Yerkovich and executive produced by Michael Mann, debuted in 1984.
Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas played undercover detectives with a keen sense of justice that matched their suits.
The program turned into a cultural icon that impacted everything from men's fashion and film aesthetics to music videos.
With Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell playing Tubbs and Crockett, Mann brought Miami Vice to the big screen in 2006.
Despite critics' disagreements, the film's gritty realism and atmospheric style won it a loyal fan base and a $163.7 million global box office haul.
The upcoming reboot will be produced by Dylan Clark (The Batman) and Kosinski himself, with a screenplay by Eric Warren Singer (Top Gun: Maverick) and Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler), based on Yerkovich’s original characters.
Jordan's possible involvement has already generated excitement on social media, despite Universal Pictures' refusal to comment on the project.
