Ed Sheeran has opened up about one of the most frightening chapters of his life — and this time, the news is thankfully hopeful. The singer shared that his wife, Cherry Seaborn, is now doing well after battling cancer during her pregnancy in 2022.

Speaking on the March 10 episode of the Friends Keep Secrets podcast with Benny Blanco, Lil Dicky and Kristin Batalucco, Ed Sheeran gave a simple but powerful update. “She’s fine,” Ed Sheeran said. “She had the operation.”

Cherry Seaborn had been diagnosed while pregnant with the couple’s second daughter, Jupiter, which made an already terrifying situation even more complicated. “I mean she was pregnant at the time,” Ed Sheeran explained.

“Which is why it was difficult. She had the operation to remove the tumor after she’d given birth to our second child. Thankfully, touch wood, totally fine.” The couple also share their eldest daughter, Lyra.

Ed Sheeran first spoke publicly about Cherry Seaborn’s diagnosis in his 2023 Disney+ documentary Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All, but he now admits that hearing the news was devastating. “The day that Cherry rung me up and said that she had cancer,” he recalled.

“That was probably the worst day. Probably the worst week, because Jamal died that week as well and then we went straight into the court case. And then Shane died.”

At the time, Ed Sheeran was mourning the sudden deaths of close friends Jamal Edwards and Shane Warne, while also fighting a long-running copyright case over “Shape of You”, which he later won. “It was f--king scary,” he said.

“Being in the court case though, which everything was building to that for eight years. And then suddenly when you’re in the courtroom, it didn’t really matter. And because all of the heavy life things happened, when I was in the courtroom I was like, ‘I don’t actually care about the outcome of this, because it’s so small.’”

Through the chaos, Cherry Seaborn remained his anchor. "Cherry is the biggest grounding force,” Ed Sheeran previously shared. “Like, anytime that anything is a little bit too Hollywood, she's like, ‘Bro…’” He laughed while recalling, "Like, I tried to build a bowling alley in our in our backyard, and she was just like, ‘Come on, man. You don't need that.’ She just doesn't want our kids growing up and it being like, you know, the Richie Rich house.”
