Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai’s on-screen chemistry and off-screen relationship have always been a hot topic among Bollywood fans. Recently, their co-star Himani Shivpuri gave a heartfelt glimpse into their past during a chat with Red FM Podcasts, sharing some intimate moments from when Salman and Aishwarya were dating during the filming of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.
Himani spoke warmly about Aishwarya, highlighting not just her beauty but her genuine personality and intellect.
She recalled working with her on several films, saying, “She was not very established back then. We were very close then, used to roam in vans. We would shoot in Hyderabad for Humara Dil Aapke Paas Hai. This was the time when she and Salman were going very strong, so Salman used to come every night and leave in the morning. She was very nice and very well read, and we used to talk a lot. And there were some things that I couldn’t share, of course. More than a beauty, I think she is a very nice person.”
It’s clear that beyond the glitz, Aishwarya made a lasting impression with her kindness and warmth.
Himani also shared a rare, more personal side of Salman, revealing a moment when he was visibly upset during a shoot. “I remember once we were shooting in Film City. Aishwarya was shooting with Abhishek for Rohan Sippy’s film, and Salman had come, and he was pissed. He was telling me, ‘Kya hai? Isko samjhao. Waheeda Rehman ko dekhe. Apne aap ko bohot khubsurat samajhti hai’ (You make her understand. She thinks she is pretty. Ask her to look at Waheeda Rehman). I used to tell him to calm down, to stay quiet,” she said.
Salman and Aishwarya reportedly started dating on the sets of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam in 1999 but parted ways in 2002. Their last film together was Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam, which came out that same year. Aishwarya later married Abhishek Bachchan in a private ceremony in 2007, and the couple now share a daughter, Aaradhya.
In recent years, Salman was last seen in Sikandar, which didn’t quite hit the mark at the box office. He’s currently working on Battle of Galwan.
Meanwhile, Aishwarya has been enjoying success with Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan II (2023), which was a major hit and grossed Rs 344.63 crore worldwide, alongside a star-studded cast including Vikram and Trisha Krishnan.
