Anthony Mackie’s journey as Sam Wilson, aka the Falcon, to becoming Captain America has been a long and compelling one. His character first appeared in Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014, where he became a loyal ally to Steve Rogers (Chris Evans).
By the end of Avengers: Endgame, following Steve’s retirement, Sam was entrusted with the iconic shield, officially stepping into the role of Captain America. However, Sam’s transformation didn’t stop there.
Now, Sam Wilson will have his first solo outing as Captain America in Captain America: Brave New World, set to release in 2025. In this action-packed adventure, Sam will face a new, formidable foe—President Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross, who is transformed into Red Hulk, portrayed by Harrison Ford.
The film will not be available on any streaming platforms immediately upon release. As is the case with most Marvel feature films, the movie will first be released in theatres. This follows Marvel's standard approach, with Brave New World premiering in cinemas on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2025. After its theatrical run, the film will make its way to Disney+, which is the exclusive streaming home for all MCU content.
In the Disney+ miniseries The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sam wrestled with what it truly meant to be Captain America, ultimately embracing the mantle despite initial hesitations.
Now, Sam must also navigate an international crisis that could lead to devastating consequences, testing his skills and resolve as the new Captain America. With high stakes, Brave New World promises to be a thrilling first solo film for Sam Wilson in his new role.
This release marks the beginning of Marvel’s 2025 movie slate, with Thunderbolts set to follow in May and The Fantastic Four: The First Steps in July. Marvel continues its trend of releasing multiple films each year, with Deadpool & Wolverine being the only film to be released in 2024.
