As part of the centenary celebrations of legendary filmmaker Guru Dutt, cinephiles across India are being offered a rare cinematic experience. From 8th to 10th August, Ultra Media and Entertainment will present a nationwide theatrical retrospective of Guru Dutt’s most iconic films, headlined by the 4K restored version of Pyaasa—one of Indian cinema’s most revered masterpieces.

The retrospective will feature restored versions of several beloved titles from Guru Dutt’s illustrious career, including Aar Paar, Chaudhvin Ka Chand, Mr. & Mrs. 55, and Baaz. These screenings aim to introduce a new generation to the filmmaker’s lyrical storytelling and visual artistry, while giving long-time admirers the chance to relive the magic on the big screen.

The restoration work has been painstakingly carried out by NFDC-NFAI under the National Film Heritage Mission, an initiative by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India. This project seeks not only to restore these classics to their original glory but also to preserve the cultural and cinematic legacy of one of India’s greatest auteurs.

Sushilkumar Agrawal, MD & CEO of Ultra Media and Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., which holds the rights to Guru Dutt’s films, remarked, “Guru Dutt’s films are timeless masterpieces that have influenced generations of filmmakers and audiences alike. We are honoured to present his classics in restored versions so that both devoted fans and new audiences can relive the magic on the big screen.”

It’s about safeguarding a priceless legacy that defines the soul of Indian cinema. These films are now preserved as national treasures that will continue to inspire for generations.”

This centenary celebration stands as a heartfelt tribute to Guru Dutt’s enduring impact on Indian cinema. With his blend of poetic storytelling, soulful music, and unforgettable characters, Guru Dutt’s vision remains as powerful today as it was decades ago. The retrospective not only celebrates his birth centenary but also revives the elegance and depth of classic Indian cinema for audiences of all ages.
