According to Fox News, Hollywood actor Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were found dead in their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on February 26, 2025. The authorities in New Mexico have launched an investigation into their deaths, as there were suspicious circumstances surrounding the case. Investigators have confirmed that there were no signs of external trauma on either Hackman or Arakawa. However, the authorities are waiting for autopsy and toxicology reports to determine the exact cause of death.

During the investigation, detectives recovered two cell phones, an orange prescription bottle, and a 2025 planner from the residence. Experts believe that analyzing the phones, prescription drugs, and trash could provide important clues about their deaths. Former FBI investigator Bill Daly explained that investigators can track the last movements of the couple through their mobile devices. If the phones suddenly stopped moving or lost communication, it might help determine the time of death.

Authorities are also looking into Hackman’s pacemaker records. The last recorded activity on his pacemaker occurred on February 17, leading investigators to believe that this was the last day he was alive. His body was discovered nine days later.

The police have ruled out carbon monoxide poisoning as a cause of death. Tests conducted by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office and the Santa Fe City Fire Department found no traces of carbon monoxide in their residence.

The couple was discovered by maintenance workers, Jesse Kesler and Roland Lowe Begay. Kesler, who had been working as a personal contractor for the couple for 16 years, made a frantic 911 call on February 26 after finding them unresponsive.

Investigators are now reviewing security footage from the gated community where Hackman and Arakawa lived. They are looking at geolocation data and checking if there was any suspicious movement in or around the house before or after their deaths.

The police are still gathering evidence and have not yet determined if foul play was involved. The investigation remains open, and further updates are expected after the toxicology report is released.
