As the first half of 2025 concludes, IMDb has unveiled its list of the most popular Indian films based on global page views and user engagement, spotlighting titles that captivated audiences with compelling storytelling and diverse genres.

Chhaava and Dragon are among the most popular films of this year

As the first half of 2025 wraps up, Indian cinema has delivered a dynamic mix of genres that resonated with audiences across the country. IMDb has released its list of the most popular Indian movies of 2025 so far, based on page views from over 250 million monthly visitors worldwide. These titles not only maintained an average user rating of 6 or higher but also garnered a minimum of 10,000 user votes between January 1 and July 1, 2025.

Topping the list is Chhaava, a gripping historical drama that captivated viewers with its powerful storytelling and performances. Close behind is Dragon, which blended high-concept sci-fi with Desi sensibilities, proving Indian cinema's growing ambitions in the genre.

At number three, Deva solidified its lead actor's box office pull, offering intense action paired with emotional depth. Raid 2, the sequel to the 2018 hit, lived up to expectations by serving a potent mix of corruption, courtroom tension, and suspense.

Retro, a stylised noir film set in the 1980s, earned the fifth spot thanks to its unique visual aesthetic and genre-bending narrative. Political thriller The Diplomat took sixth place, weaving international stakes with Indian diplomacy in a taut, well-acted storyline.

Seventh on the list is L2: Empuraan, the eagerly awaited follow-up to Lucifer, which brought back Mohanlal’s enigmatic character and thrilled fans with its layered storytelling and action sequences. Sitaare Zameen Par, a heartfelt drama about childhood dreams and resilience, earned the eighth spot for its emotional appeal and strong performances.

Historical retelling Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh ranked ninth, striking a chord with viewers. Rounding out the top ten is Vidaamuyarchi, which won praise for its tight screenplay and dramatic heft.
