Filmmaker Aanand L. Rai and his production house, Colour Yellow Productions, are set to revive a long-lost passion project—Heer. The Raanjhanaa director is once again on the lookout for his new muse for this modern-day adaptation of the timeless love story. Originally conceptualized in 2014, Rai had expressed his desire to create an ambitious and emotionally charged retelling of Heer Ranjha, a legendary romance that continues to inspire cinematic adaptations.
Now, after years on hold, the project is finally back on track. If industry buzz is to be believed, the filmmaker and his team plan to bring Heer to life by 2026, with a leading Bollywood actress set to headline the film. Fans of Rai’s storytelling can expect a fresh yet deeply poignant take on this iconic love saga.
"The film is going to be from the female protagonist’s perspective, much like their projects Tanu Weds Manu, Haseen Dillruba, Atrangi Re and Nil Battey Sannata," stated the source.
The upcoming Heer film will be told from the female protagonist's perspective, following in the footsteps of Aanand L. Rai’s previous works like Tanu Weds Manu, Haseen Dillruba, Atrangi Re, and Nil Battey Sannata. This focus on the woman’s viewpoint promises to bring a fresh and emotionally rich take on the classic tale of Heer Ranjha.

But what's truly exciting is that Heer might not be a standalone film. Industry insiders hint that it could be the first entry in an ambitious interconnected cinematic universe from Colour Yellow Productions, with love as the unifying theme that spans different times, places, and perspectives.
Meanwhile, Aanand L. Rai is also busy with another highly anticipated project, Tere Ishk Mein. This intense tale of unrequited love stars Dhanush and Kriti Sanon and marks the reunion of the Raanjhanaa team, with music by AR Rahman. Fans are eagerly awaiting the magic Rai is set to create with both Tere Ishk Mein and Heer.
