Esha Deol on how her lifestyle changed after marrying Bharat Takhtani: I couldn’t roam around the house in my shorts and ganjis

Esha Deol and her ex-husband Bharat Takhtani have been in the spotlight once again, after Bharat recently shared a photo with entrepreneur Meghna Lakhani, that hinted at a new chapter in his life. The couple, who tied the knot in a grand ceremony in 2012, announced their separation in 2024 after 11 years of marriage.

In her 2020 book Amma Mia, Esha revealed some unexpected lifestyle changes she faced after moving in with her in-laws. She candidly wrote, “Of course, once I began living with his family, I couldn’t roam around the house in my shorts and ganjis like I used to.”

For Esha, who was used to comfort and freedom in her maternal home, this restriction came as a surprise. However, she also acknowledged the love and warmth she received in return. “My mother-in-law never insisted that I enter the kitchen or do any of the orthodox things she had been made to do as a bahu (daughter-in-law),” she recalled.

Esha and Bharat’s marriage lasted for more than a decade. In February 2024, they released a joint statement announcing their separation, calling it a “mutual and amicable decision.” They emphasised that their priority would remain the well-being of their two daughters, Radhya and Miraya.

Since parting ways, both Esha and Bharat have been committed to co-parenting. Esha has chosen to keep her personal life away from the limelight, and focus on her daughters and personal growth. Bharat, meanwhile, seems to be moving forward as he shared glimpses of his companionship with Meghna Lakhani.
