Ed Gale, who was known for bringing the evil doll Chucky to life in the 1988 original Child's Play and its 1990 follow-up, has passed away at the age of 61.
Gale passed away in Los Angeles on Tuesday, May 27, while receiving hospice care, according to TMZ.
In a touching Facebook post on Wednesday, his niece Kayse Gale confirmed his passing. Her tribute vividly depicted Gale's vibrant personality and legendary career in the entertainment industry, despite the fact that she did not reveal the precise cause of death.
“It is with a heavy heart and a surprisingly light coffin (see what I did there?) that we announce the sudden passing of our uncle, Ed Gale,” she wrote. “Ed Gale has taken his final bow and is now headlining in the afterlife. Ed hitched a ride to California when he was twenty years old, with $41 and a dream, and he never looked back.”
In her tribute, Kayse recalled Gale’s colourful contributions to cinema, including cult favourites such as Howard the Duck and Chopper Chicks in Zombie Town. “He lit up the silver screens... earning himself some serious street cred at every con he attended. Which he never stopped bragging about. Ever,” she quipped.
Over the course of his career, Gale appeared in more than 130 films, television shows, and commercials. Kayse wrote, “With this wide-ranging body of work, he leaves behind
Kayse’s post fondly highlighted Gale’s quirks and humour: “Ed loved 7 Eleven hotdogs with disgusting amounts of ketchup. He enjoyed reminiscing about his glory days DJing at the Plainwell roller rink. He hated Bill Maher for no good reason.” She added, “He delighted in the slow build up of telling a good story, and cheating at cribbage. He had one hell of a laugh, and he will be missed.”
