Dulquer Salmaan denies rumours about Lokah: Chapter 1's OTT release date: "Ignore the fake news"

Amid its stellar run, rumours began circulating that Lokah would soon be released on OTT platforms.

Kalyani Priyadarshan starrer sci-fi film Lokah: Chapter 1— Chandra has smashed several records at the box office since its release on August 28. The film has quickly cemented its place as the highest-grossing Malayalam movie of all time.

Amid its stellar run, rumours began circulating that Lokah would soon be released on OTT platforms. With Mohanlal’s Hridayapoorvam—which also hit theatres on August 28—set to stream on JioHotstar from September 26, speculation grew stronger that Lokah would follow suit and premiere on Netflix by the end of the month in multiple languages.

However, producer Dulquer Salmaan put the speculation to rest. Taking to X, he clarified: “Lokah isn’t coming to OTT anytime soon. Ignore the fake news and stay tuned for official announcements! #Lokah #WhatstheHurry.”

The clarification was met with praise from fans, many of whom supported the decision to hold off on a digital release while the film continues its successful theatrical run. One user commented, “Congratulations on your current efforts, it truly reflects your and your team’s pure passion for cinema, along with your dedication & professionalism.” Another fan wrote, “Keep it in movies, I want to watch.” A netizen echoed the sentiment, adding, “When a movie is theatrically performing, the OTT release should not be shared.”

Lokah: Chapter 1—Chandra is the first installment of a planned five-part franchise helmed by Dominic. Kalyani Priyadarshan plays the role of Chandra/Neeli, a yakshi or vampire. The next chapter will feature Tovino Thomas as Chathan, a goblin, while Dulquer himself is expected to portray Charlie, an odiyan or shapeshifter.

Meanwhile, Dulquer Salmaan has a busy slate ahead. His upcoming projects include the Malayalam drama I’m Game, directed by Nahas Hidhayath, which marks his 41st film, an untitled project with Pooja Hegde and Ravi Nelakuditi, and the Tamil film Kaantha.
