Dr. Shriram Nene opens up about sharing limelight with actress-wife Madhuri Dixit: 'She's the celebrity, I'm just part of the journey'

Bollywood icon Madhuri Dixit is married to well-known cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Shriram Nene for 26 years now. In a recent interview, Dr Nene opened up about his life beside a superstar and how he navigates life.

Dr. Shriram Nene discussed the emotional and psychological difficulties of being married to a well-known public figure in an interview with Dr. Deepak Chopra on his YouTube channel.

He revealed that although he has a great deal of respect and admiration for his wife's outstanding accomplishments, there have been occasions when he has struggled with feelings of inadequacy and being overshadowed.

He acknowledged that these experiences gave rise to personal battles with self-doubt and a sense of invisibility, providing a unique window into the emotional complexities of life in the spotlight.

"I'm the unintentional American in a royal court. She's the celebrity—I'm just part of the journey. But beyond that occasional sense of being overshadowed, I’ve come to see how each individual can contribute significantly to the lives of others. Never underestimate the power of one," he stated during the interview.

Dr. Shriram Nene also talked candidly about how his lifestyle changed significantly after relocating to India. He reflected on the irony of his own path while working at UCLA Medical Centre, where he frequently treated Hollywood celebrities who placed a high value on privacy.

He also mentioned that he never expected to become a public figure during his years of practicing medicine in the United States, but after marrying Madhuri Dixit, he suddenly found himself in the spotlight.

Madhuri Dixit and Dr Nene got married in an intimate wedding ceremony in California, 1999. The couple have two sons, Arin and Ryan.
